Today, I am blessed to have Shawn Wells, MPH, LDN, RD, CISSN, FISSN join the show. He is a product formulator and expert in performance nutrition, longevity, fitness, and supplementation.

He earned his master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he studied nutritional biochemistry with a minor in exercise science. Shawn is a Registered Dietitian with a decade of experience as a Chief Clinical Dietitian in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. He is also a Certified Sports Nutritionist and has worked with celebrity clients and professional athletes.

On the road to being dubbed “The World’s Greatest Formulator”, Biohacktivitst, and Keto Authority, Shawn faced and overcame significant obstacles with his own health—weight issues, depression, autoimmune conditions (Epstein-Barr, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), two cervical discs replacements, and a pituitary adenoma, which is a type of brain tumor.

They say everything happens for a reason, and in Shawn’s case, his health problems led him down a winding path that required him to find science-based solutions, and they sparked his personal passion for biohacking.

  • Shawn went to business school because that’s what everyone else wanted him to do.
  • Shawn ended up getting really into supplements. He would take supplements, work out and see all these changes in his body.
  • Eventually, Shawn realized he needs to chase his dreams of being a formulator and working with athletes.
  • So, Shawn told his counselor about his new dreams – he laughed at Shawn. Later that night, Shawn almost committed suicide because his dreams had been totally crushed.
  • Eventually, Shawn got into his dream school and pursued his goals despite what his counselor told him.
  • During this work, Shawn’s autoimmune system exploded; he had loads of issues.
  • However, Shawn found keto, and it changed his life forever.

  • A lot of people try dirty keto by drinking diet sodas and using artificial sweeteners.
  • Making your own keto desserts is another mistake.
  • Also, many people think they can eat out and still eat keto. Shawn says he would try and eat Burger King while following the keto diet.
  • Eating too much protein can be a mistake for people. Instead, think about eating more fat. That way, you feel full faster. The higher your ketones get, the more you will struggle to eat.
  • If women can’t get into ketosis, Shawn says to try a period of strict keto. Down the road, you can play with net carbs.
