Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Sonya Jensen. She has been working with women for over a decade, inspiring them to be the best versions of themselves and helping them gain freedom from the chains of society, their hormones, and the mantra that continuously plays in so many of their minds, I'm not enough. Dr. Jensen has made it clear that healing hormones isn't just a job for the physical body but the heart, mind, and even the soul.

The experiences a woman has from the womb onward, dictate her thoughts and beliefs about herself and life. These beliefs, in turn, dictate the actions and communication pathways of her hormones, creating her personality and, therefore, creating her life. Dr. Jensen details the science behind hormones and the wisdom behind womanhood, illustrating how the dance between the two makes way for either a woman's healing or her suffering.

[00:50] How Dr. Jensen Went From Being Victimized By Her life To Feeling Empowered

  • At age 13, Dr. Jensen didn't have a lot of control. She did not feel free to be herself or think the way she wanted to think and express that fully.
  • At the moment, Dr. Jensen was crying and crying. Earlier in the day, Dr. Jensen’s mother had read her journal.
  • Sadly, Dr. Jensen started to recognize that nothing was hers. Her mind, her body, and her thoughts were not hers.
  • Jensen found a safety pin and carved “I hate life” into her arm.
  • All of a sudden, something shifted; Dr. Jensen realized that she didn’t need to be a victim.

  • Through Dr. Jensen’s own healing with her traumas that she’s been through and navigating healing for women, Dr. Jensen realized that this conversation isn't happening enough.

  • When we're in the womb, we're listening and understanding.
  • Around 18 to 19 weeks, the auditory system is there and is trying to figure out what the world will be like when we're outside of the womb.
  • Plus, we're getting information from all the hormones that our mother is secreting.
  • Our brains are all developed for survival. If we don't fit into the tribe that we're moving into, it will be really hard to survive.
  • The brain and the body are so smart that they're going to mold themselves to fit in.

  • Our womb and our uterus is a space that's supposed to be for creativity, for abundance. However, with past trauma, our bodies can suffer.

[12:30] The Reasons We Create Stories & How To Create Stories That Will Better Serve You

  • There are different reasons why we create stories. We create a story in the womb to help us survive the environment we're going in.
  • Stories are beautiful; they hold tradition and culture. Plus, stories can be amazing learning opportunities.
  • Also, stories are influencing how we navigate our world, what we believe about ourselves, and the lens that we put on when we perceive the world around us.
  • When we're trapped in the story that we've created to survive, we're not really connected to our own center and our own soul’s story.

[16:25] The Tools That Dr. Jensen Loves To Use & How You Can Apply These Tools Today

  • Yoga and meditation for Dr. Jensen was a lifesaver.
  • Yoga doesn't have to be buying a yoga mat and doing a yoga class.
  • Instead, yoga could be connecting with nature, it could be cooking a meal, and feeling completely connected with yourself.
  • Physical yoga creates these movements in our body that we don't normally do. Plus, it creates this awakening and certain nerve endings and connections between organs and our breath. It starts to repattern our brain to think differently.
  • Often, we're stuck in our mind, and we're operating from our mind. However, yoga can bring you back to your heart.

[21:45] The Most Common Symptom That Women Deal With On A Daily Basis

  • The most common symptom that Dr. Jensen treats is anxiety.
  • There's usually an event that's created that anxiety, there is perception, there's a belief, and then that turns into deficiencies in our hormones.
  • When a woman has anxiety, her gut system is also not working as well.
  • Women need to understand where the anxiety is coming from and that it's not who she is.
  • When we're thriving off of that stress, the anxieties show up, the gut issues show up, the inability to be very intimate shows up.

[27:20] The Most Significant Lesson That Dr. Jensen Learned From Writing Her First Book

  • The healing never stops.
  • There is always another layer to your healing journey.
  • Also, there is never one answer for all of us.
  • Lastly, healing is a journey, and we don't have to get there right away.

[29:35] How To Navigate Keto So You Can Have A Healthier Monthly Cycle

  • Variation is key if you have a heavy menstrual cycle.
  • For the first two weeks of your cycle, you can go heavy with keto.
  • The last two weeks, you want to up your healthy carbs.
  • You can also use seeds. Eat pumpkin and flax seeds the first two weeks of your cycle.
  • Green tea can also be helpful for heavy periods.
